Infertility Counseling
Infertility can be an incredibly tough experience, often filled with emotions like grief, frustration, isolation, and sometimes even guilt. If you're on this path, you’re not alone—many people face similar challenges. And while it’s normal to feel the rollercoaster of emotions that infertility can bring, counseling can be a vital support, helping you process these feelings, strengthen your resilience, and find hope, even when the journey is complex.

Pregnancy Loss
Miscarriage is more common than many people realize, affecting about 1 in 5 pregnancies. Yet, it can feel incredibly isolating and heartbreaking. It’s normal to experience a confusing mix of emotions—sadness, guilt, even anger. The loss can be overwhelming, and many women find themselves wondering if they could have done something differently.

Postpartum and Antepartum Depression and Anxiety
Pregnancy and postpartum bring so many changes—physically, emotionally, and mentally. Anxiety and depression can creep in, and it's so important to recognize these feelings are valid and often manageable with the right support. Therapy can offer a safe space to unpack these emotions, develop practical coping mechanisms, and rediscover a sense of balance and joy.

Egg and Sperm
Donor Screenings
This process is so essential for ensuring a responsible and emotionally stable foundation for all involved in third-party reproduction. Psychological assessments for gamete donors help establish their readiness and awareness of the ethical and emotional complexities of donation. With screenings that address mental and emotional health, personal history, and relationship dynamics (when applicable), donors are better prepared to make informed choices.

Meeting both in-person or securely via Zoom and including joint sessions for familiar donors—ensures transparency, clarity, and collaborative decision-making, which is invaluable for the long-term well-being of the recipients, donors, and future child.

Gestational Carrier Screenings
Psychological screening for gestational carriers is a crucial step in safeguarding the well-being of everyone involved, especially in a journey as sensitive and complex as third-party reproduction. The process assesses emotional readiness, mental health, and interpersonal dynamics, which are vital for a successful and supportive experience.

For the gestational carrier, this screening evaluates her emotional stability, maturity, and understanding of the psychological challenges that may arise. The inclusion of the spouse or partner adds another layer of support and ensures alignment on key issues, while joint meetings with the intended parents or donors, especially in known-donor scenarios, foster open communication and mutual understanding on essential topics like embryo transfer preferences and relationship boundaries.

Conducting these screenings in a comfortable setting, whether in-person or via secure video, allows each party to feel safe in discussing expectations and boundaries. A thorough psychological evaluation provides peace of mind, setting a foundation of trust, clarity, and mutual respect for a successful journey ahead.
Counseling

Choosing the Right Therapist.
Choosing a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) as your therapist offers unique advantages rooted in a holistic, compassionate, and person-centered approach to mental health care. LCSWs are trained not only in psychotherapy and mental health treatment, but also in understanding how relationships, environment, culture, and life experiences impact emotional well-being. This broader perspective allows them to support the whole person — not just the symptoms.

Why Choose an LCSW?
1. Holistic Understanding of Mental Health
LCSWs are trained to recognize how factors such as family dynamics, trauma, relationships, work stress, community, culture, and socioeconomic experiences influence mental health. This comprehensive perspective helps create treatment plans that address both internal struggles and external stressors.

2. Strengths-Based and Empowering Approach. Rather than focusing solely on problems, LCSWs help clients identify their strengths, resilience, and existing coping abilities. Therapy is designed to empower clients, build confidence, and support meaningful personal growth.

3. Commitment to Advocacy and Social Justice. LCSWs are deeply grounded in values of equity, inclusion, and advocacy. They understand how systemic barriers, stigma, discrimination, and access to resources can affect mental wellness and are equipped to help clients navigate these challenges with compassion and support.

4. Practical Support Beyond Therapy
In addition to providing psychotherapy, LCSWs can help clients connect with community resources and navigate challenges related to healthcare access, family support, employment, housing, and other life stressors that may impact emotional well-being.

5. Evidence-Based, Compassionate Care
LCSWs are trained in evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care, mindfulness-based interventions, and other effective treatment modalities tailored to individual needs.

Choosing an LCSW means partnering with a therapist who values the whole person, understands the complexity of life experiences, and is committed to helping clients heal, grow, and thrive in all areas of life.

LGBTQ+ Family Building and Support
At our practice, we proudly support LGBTQ+ family building and are committed to providing compassionate, inclusive, and affirming guidance for individuals and couples pursuing parenthood through third-party reproduction. Research consistently shows that children raised in loving families — including those with same-sex parents — thrive emotionally, socially, and developmentally. Our role is to help ensure your path to parenthood feels informed, supported, and empowering every step of the way.

You may be wondering, “Why has my doctor referred me to a therapist? I’m not seeking therapy — I simply want to build my family.” This is a very common question. These consultations are not psychological evaluations or “home studies.” Instead, they are educational and supportive consultations designed to help intended parents thoughtfully navigate the unique emotional, relational, and practical aspects of third-party reproduction.

During our one-to-two-hour consultation, we will explore important topics including:
-
Disclosure — Discussing if, how, and when to share information about donor conception or surrogacy with your child, family members, and others.
-
Decision-Making and Alignment — Identifying key decision points to help ensure you and your partner feel aligned and prepared throughout the family-building process.
-
Donor and/or Surrogate Selection — Exploring considerations when selecting a donor or gestational carrier that aligns with your values, goals, and comfort level.
-
Future Contact and Boundaries — Discussing expectations regarding future communication or relationships with donors and/or surrogates and establishing healthy boundaries for all involved.
-
Embryo Disposition Decisions — Navigating thoughtful conversations regarding embryo storage, future use, donation, or disposal.
-
Preparing for Potential Challenges — Reviewing common emotional, relational, and logistical challenges that can arise during third-party reproduction and strategies for navigating them proactively.
We encourage you to bring any questions, concerns, or uncertainties to the consultation. If you are working with a known donor or gestational carrier, additional consultation sessions may be recommended to support open communication, clarity, and mutual understanding among all parties involved.

Our goal is to provide a safe, affirming space where you can gain clarity, confidence, and peace of mind as you move forward on your journey toward building your family.
